Health City Cayman Islands is a multi-phase billion-dollar project that will eventually see a 200 acre site developed into one of the largest hospital complexes in the world. Over the next decade, the hospital will expand to 2,000-beds and will be certified as a JCI (Joint Commission International, USA) accredited facility, providing care in all major specialties.
Health City is the vision of famed Indian heart surgeon Dr. Devi Shetty who oversees Narayana Hrudayalaya, a network of 14 hospitals across India. Ascension Health, the largest private non-profit health network in the United States, joins Narayana Hrudayalaya in the first phase of the project.
Seven million square feet surrounding the hospital has been approved for Lighthouse Coast, a mixed-use Planned Area Development (PAD) by City Services.
The first phase of this mega hospital complex is scheduled to accept its first patients in mid 2014 when the 140-bed tertiary care facility focusing on cardiac surgery, cardiology and orthopedics opens. Health City will eventually incorporate a complete service hospital complex also specializing in neurology, oncology and other cutting edge tertiary care disciplines.
A medical university and an assisted-care living community are also scheduled for development in later phases of this mega project. Lighthouse Coast is designed to complement all of these facilities.
